This road, was built to reach the Temple of Jupiter in 7 century BC, for Roman Emperors and Generals to seek favors from the God. The 2 miles slightly uphill road, paved with local Basalt Volcanic rock (this rock has been widely used to pave roads in Rome for centuries, in the shape of “Sanpietrini”) offers a mystical experience. Hiking along the peaceful path, through wild woods and over the tree line unveiling an unparalleled view over the surrounding lakes, up to the coast on clear days. After lunch at a typical restaurant in one of the hill-top towns of Castelli Romani, you will visit a one of the prominent wine estates in the area. The visit will includes also wine tasting of locally produced white fruity though robust wines. If you are not a wine lover, after the morning walk, a stop for lunch in the charming hill-top village of Nemi, the first settlement of which dates back to Medieval time. Then a visit to the Ancient Roman Ships Museum located right on the Nemi lake shore, housing relics of 2 Emperor Caligula’s ship found at the bottom of the Lake.
