San Gimignano and Pisa

From Livorno, your English speaking driver will transport you, by luxury minibus, through the magical landscape of Tuscany. With vineyards and olive trees virtually brushing the roadside and the mystical medieval hilltop villages glistening above, you will take a journey through time to the 13th century.  You will arrive in San Gimignano, one of the most popular destinations in Tuscany, and explore this City of Beautiful Towers. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, this was an important stop on the catholic pilgrimage to Rome and the Vatican, and it retains it feudal atmosphere and appearance through the preservation of 14 (of the original 72) tower-houses. This is the perfect place to relax and immerse yourself in the civilization of the Middle Ages.  Here you will find a dense cluster of churches (the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta and the chiesa di Sant’Agostino are the most notable) palaces, squares with wells and fountains and many museums displaying artwork and artifacts from the era.

After lunch, we start back to Livorno taking time to stop in Pisa to see another UNESCO World Heritage site, the Piazza dei Miracoli, consisting of the Duomo(1064), the Baptistery (1153), the Camposanto (regarded as the worlds most beautiful cemetery) and, of course, the famous leaning Bell Tower of Pisa(1173-1372). Many enjoy climbing to the top of the tower for a wonderful view of the city.

At 5:30 we return you to your dock in Livorno.
